Why Does GOD Allow Suffering?

 

This is often the most asked question by non-believers and sometimes, believers going through challenges: why does GOD allow suffering? Why can't HE intervene in the current state of this world?  Why does GOD allow the wicked to persist in evil? People ask these questions with a hope of getting an answer that would convict GOD of negligence; for allowing His Creation experience pain and tragedy.

Many cannot comprehend that a loving and powerful Creator, would let specters like war, famine, diseases and suffering to persist on Earth. It seems unfathomable that not only has GOD let these distresses happen; He does nothing to fix it. And if you have a moment to listen; they will relay how these have affected them personally; and as a result, they have lost faith in GOD. And that's usually where the argument ends. But this is not the whole story!

From a Biblical account: GOD created a perfect world! And the Bible declared this in Genesis 1:31 "GOD saw everything that HE had made, and behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning was the sixth day". So, suffering, pain, and death was not part of the original picture of GOD's creation, or plan for humanity; but sin changed all that. When Adam sinned, he unknowingly opened the door to all the crisis that humanity has, and is still dealing with today. E.g., Greed, pride, wickedness, jealousy, hatred, lies, bitterness, unforgiveness to name a few. And almost all of the problems of today's world have these elements at the core of it. Wars, famine, diseases and more, are all the resultant effect (the fruit) of sin, as mentioned above. This is because, sin breeds suffering and death. Romans 6:23 for the wages of sin is death, but the gift of GOD is eternal life. The death here does not refer to physical death, rather, a spiritual decapitation from GOD-the source of life. And once a soul loses access to GOD, it becomes utterly wicked; meting out evil wherever it goes. This wicked mindset is responsible for the problems in other people's lives, and the society at large. And since we currently live in a world where many have denounced their faith in GOD, the world is also full of individuals who are capable of such much evil. Hence our current state. 

So, is GOD the cause of all these problems? No, human beings are! As GOD has given us the freedom to choose; people (both high up in society and everyday folks) are making bad choices, that ends up affecting the world around them. Genesis 6: 5-6, 11-12. 

Is GOD doing nothing to fix the anguish that people are experiencing? No, HE is working through individuals, governments and charities, to bring relief to those in need: as well establishing authorities that will help to end the hostility among humans. Isaiah 11:6. Jeremiah 29: 11. Revelation 21: 3-4.

Whilst there's no quick fix for the global mess, the world is currently in; I can assure anyone who cares to listen that GOD is not sitting idlily by, whilst HIS creation disintegrates. The Bible tells us how much GOD loves HIS creation, and to what length HE would go to save it from destruction. John 3:16 "For GOD so loved the world, that HE sent HIS only begotten Son: that whoever believed in HIM, will not perish, but have everlasting life". So be at ease, GOD is working out something for your good; even if you currently can't see it.
