What does "Love Of JESUS" mean?
In Christian communities, you'll often hear people say show (someone) the "love of JESUS"! But what do Christians mean by that? How does one express this Love? And finally, who needs the "love of JESUS"?
In today's blog, I hope to answer these questions: starting with the explanation of "love of JESUS"!
The love of JESUS is fundamental to the Christian Faith! And it is for everyone! Without the love that JESUS CHRIST expressed
towards us, Humanity would have been damned.
But Love prompted JESUS to sacrifice HIS Heavenly glory, for a fallen world; to save broken humanity. HE was clothed in a lowly, sin infested human body. HE lived and walked amongst us; doing so many amazing things yet was appallingly treated by HIS generation. Despite the ingratitude: HE went ahead and offered HIMSELF-a living sacrifice to GOD, for the atonement of the sins of humankind. This invaluable sacrifice is the hope of Christian (and indeed humanity) today. The sacrifice of JESUS means we no longer have to pay the price for our sins; rather, we are be granted eternal life through Faith in CHRIST.
So, from the brief explanation above: One can see that the "love of JESUS was sacrificial, selfless, kind, considerate of other people's need, and so on. With these attributes in mind: these are simple ways to show/express this Agape Love to others!
Be tolerant - Accommodate other people's shortcomings,
weakness, or failures, whether its intentional or unintentional. Bearing in
mind; that you are not perfect! In your daily life, you may unintentionally
offend others by your words, actions or inactions as well. And in most cases, they'll chosen to look away and let
it go! Thus, do the same! Bear with others. Romans 15: 1. Galatians 6: 2. 1st Peter 2: 23.
Be gentle - JESUS never raised HIS voice on any, including
those (the Pharisees) who strongly opposed HIM. That shows the humility of
CHRIST. In your daily interactions with others, be humble and approachable. Avoid doing or
saying things harshly. When provoked, walk away to avoid escalation; then return to the person or scene when you've calmed down. This approach helps to deal with the situation constructively, whilst strengthening your relationship. Colossians 4: 6. 2nd Timithy 2: 24- 25.
Communicate with care - In HIS days, JESUS listened to people with compassion. Wherever HE went, HE asked questions and listened! We ought to emulate that. When we talk with people, lets also make room for them to speak. Allow people to share their thoughts, fears, lessons, or aspirations etc. Don't just do all the talking, rather, listen to understand what someone is trying to communicate to you.
Give - No greater example of giving than JESUS CHRIST dying for the sins and redemption of humanity. Love is about giving! When you love you give. You give your time, resources, advice, companionship, etc. Whatever is the need of some around you; there's always something you can give to make things a little better for them. John 3: 16
Be kind - Have empathy towards other people's situation,
predicament or experiences. When you come across a situation; imagine if it was
you! Consider what you would want others to do for you, in that given moment?
This will motivate you to render kindness (be it in words or deeds) as best you
can. People generally don't expect you to go out of your way to help! But a
little act of kindness, will elevate their mood or situation-helping them feel
better. Do not only render kindness to
those you're familiar with; that is
wrong! Because JESUS died to give eternal life to everyone, not only to
those of HIS Earthly ancestry. Thus,
emulate HIM. Mathew 7: 12. Ephesians 4: 32.
Forgive others - This is crucial for your relationship with
GOD. Unforgiveness leads to
bitterness and grudge. These Unholy attributes have no place in the life of any
believer. Yes, some of us have been hurt unimaginably. Some have been betrayed
beyond words! Each of us can present a legitimate reason to hold someone in
grudge: but JESUS taught us best, with HIS parable in the book of Mathew 18: 23-35. Mind you:
forgiving others help you heal as well. It lifts the burden of other people's
wrongdoing, off your shoulders. Thus, let it go.
Who needs this love? The "Love of JESUS" is for everyone! Family members, friends, strangers, believers and non-believers alike. When we profess Christianity, we ought to walk by the examples of JESUS CHRIST, in whose name we are called. Thus showing the love of JESUS to all, irrespective of their relationship to us. Colossians 2: 6. Mathew 7: 12.
These are some of the many attributes of love. When we practice these towards others, we are showing them the "love of JESUS" .
